| The 1999 Yankees | The 1999 New York Yankees had to live up to many unfair expectations. After the 1998 Yankees - The Greatest Team in baseball history. The New York Yankees had many obstacles to overcome. And they got past all of them with the spirit of pinstripes. Joe DiMaggio, The Greatest Living Player died on March 8th. The Yankees would play the whole season with a number 5 on their sleve in memory of the legend. Two days later the team found out that there coach and second father Joe Torre was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. A little after that came the stunning news that Daryl Strawberry was busted for coke. The same hero they dedicated their 1998 season to, was busted for drugs. Catfish Hunter passed away on September 8th from Lou Gehrig's disease. The Yankees would add a black band to the bottom of their sleve under the number 5 to remember another Yankee Legend. Towards the end of the season the fathers of Luis Sojo Scott Brosius and Paul O'neill all passed away. Chick O'neill passed away during the night before Game Four Of the World Series. Surprisngly and courageously Paul was out on the field when Chad Curtis caught the last outof the season. The Yankees were able to fly past all of these emotional obstacles to claim the title of the team of the decade and of the century.
